VOTING IN THE NOVEMBER 3, 2020 GENERAL ELECTION : 
Registered voters can choose from ONE of three ways to vote: Vote by Mail, Early or at their polling place on Election Day.  Due to COVID-19, all 2020 General Election voters are encouraged to cast a ballot prior to Election Day, either by mail or during early voting.  To register or update your name or address scroll down to view your options.  To check your registration, click here.  When entering in your information, use your registered name.  If you have any questions regarding the election please email us at elections@boonecountyil.org or call us at 815-544-3103. 
 
Vote By Mail :
Applications to Vote by Mail are now being accepted for the November 3, 2020 General Election.  Applications must be received by NOON on Thursday, October 29th, 2020.  Ballots will be mailed out starting September 24, 2020.  Applications may be submitted via mail, in person, email, fax or online.

Military & Overseas Voters:  If you are a member of the U.S. armed forces, a dependent or an Illinois resident abroad there are provisions in place to assist you in receiving a ballot.  Please view the documents below or create an account on the MOVE website.
 
 
 
Early Voting:
Early Voting will begin on September 24, 2020 and end on Monday, November 2, 2020.  Early voting is conducted at the Boone County Clerk's Office located at 1212 Logan Ave, Suite 103, Belvidere, IL 61008.  Hours for Early Voting are Monday - Friday, 8:30am  - 5:00pm and Saturday, October 31 from 9:00am to Noon.
 
Election Day Voting:
If opting to vote on Election Day on Tuesday, November 3, 2020, you will go to your assigned polling location.  Polls will be open from 6:00am to 7:00pm.  Your polling location is on your Voter Registration Card or you may click here to check your registration.  When entering in your information be sure to use your registered name.
 
 
 
 
Voter Registration: Who is Eligible to Vote?

To be eligible to register to vote, a person:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen.  Naturalized citizens must provide the name of the court where naturalized, state and date of naturalization. 
  • Must be at least 18 years of age by Election Day; 17 years of age to vote in the General Primary if individual will be 18 as of the following General Election.
  • Must be a resident of the precinct at least 30 days prior to Election Day.
  • Must not be convicted and in jail.

What is Needed to Register:

Eligible voters who wish to register in person must present two forms of ID at time of registration, one showing their current residence address.

Eligible voters may register online through the State Board of Elections.   A valid Illinois Driver's License or State ID is required when registering online.  To register online click here.

Current Registration

The law requires Registered Voters to keep their name and address current. You CANNOT VOTE for local candidates or any local propositions if you are not properly registered. You can update your information using any of the ways listed above.  Voter registration ends 28 days before an election.  Please contact the County Clerk's office at 815-544-3103 if you have any questions.
