Boone County - Belvidere - Cherry Valley
Explorer Post #2009

Dear Perspective Explorer,

On behalf of the Boone-Belvidere-Cherry Valley Explorer Post #2009, I would like to invite your to our next meeting. Explorer Post #2009 presently has approximately 20 members, both male and female, ranging in age from 14 to 20. The Post meets on the second Tuesday of every month at 7:00 pm at the Public Safety Building, 615 N. Main St., Belvidere, IL in the training room.

Throughout the years we've participated in many activities and events. The Explorer Post provides assistance to the Belvidere Police Department and the Boone County Sheriff's Department by helping officer's and deputies with security and traffic control within the city of Belvidere and Boone County during the Boone County Fair (assisting the Boone County Sheriffs's Department), all city parades and most of the special events such as the Home Town Christmas celebration, Fall Diddley, and Police Week at the Cherry Vale Mall. In 2004, we chose two Explorers and two Advisors to attend the National Police Exploring Convention in Atlanta, Georgia to meet and share information and ideas with hundreds of other Explorers from across the nation.

Each Explorer is expected to attend all meetings and participate in special events throughout the year. During our meetings we generally have some type of police related training taught by an officer or deputy who has experience in that particular field. Examples of this training include 10-codes, K-9, C.I.R.T., traffic crash investigations, traffic stop procedures, first aid, and police communications. Once you've been in the Post long enough, and have passed your 10-code test, you are allowed the option of riding along with the advisor's from the city or county while they are on duty.

Explorers have a police style uniform that designates them as Explorers. Once an Explorer has a uniform it is expected to be worn at all times when participating in special events.

We participate in the Adopt-A-Highway program and once a year we clean the roadside for a section of Hunter Road. After the work is done, we usually have a pizza party, and then go to the Firing Range to shoot handguns, rifles and shotguns. It's a lot of fun!

I hope you take the time to come to our next meeting and see first hand what Exploring is all about! In the meantime, check out our photos of activities below!
