Boone County Clerk & Recorder's Office Offers New Property Fraud Alert

Boone County Clerk & Recorder, Mary S. Steurer, announced today a new online service available to residents that tracks potential fraudulent activity.  The service called Property Fraud Alert, is monitored by the Clerk & Recorder's office and notifies the subscriber when their name is used in a recording activity within the Recorder's office.

Threat of mortgage fraud and identity theft crime continues to rise and too often victims of these types of fraudulent activities are unaware their homes or identify have been stolen.  While the Property Fraud Alert does not prevent fraud from happening, it does provide an early warning system for property owners to take appropriate action if a fraudulent activity has taken place.

Once subscribed, the property owner chooses how to be notified, either by phone or by email.  The owner would then receive information on what type of document was recorded and the date of the recording.

Residents must sign up online for the free service at http://pfa.fidlar.com/ILBoone.  Questions may be directed to the Clerk & Recorder's office at 815-544-3103.
